Irish Rail Protest 2020

Irish Rail's unnecessary removal of hedgerow along the Limerick to Waterford railway line

"Following a successful protest at Limerick Junction to raise public awareness of Irish Rail's unnecessary removal of hedgerow along the Limerick to Waterford railway line, a delegation from "Save Our Hedgerows" met with Irish Rail management on Wednesday 12th February 2020.

While we are disappointed that Irish Rail intends to continue with the removal of hedgerow until the start of the nesting season(1st March), Irish Rail has responded to our concerns by undertaking to review the content of its communications with landowners and to seriously examine our group's alternative proposal that would allow for secure fencing and the preservation of the corridors of hedgerow along the railway line.

While these discussions are in train, "Save Our Hedgerows" will continue to raise awareness amongst the general public of the importance of our hedgerows. We are also encouraging landowners adjacent to our railway lines to request alternatives to hedgerow removal from Irish Rail where they are so minded. Thanks to everyone who has given us their support - we really appreciate it."
